Sac County VINELink Coverage
Iowa VINE is a free statewide program for custody information and alerts. The Iowa Attorney General says it works by phone, internet, and email at all hours. The Sac County Sheriff links the service from its victim-information page, where users can search custody status and sign up for phone or email notices.
The referral helps, but it has limits. The Sac County page does not certify that every booking and jail event appears in the current VINELink database. Coverage varies by facility and event type. Search the live interface, check which facility is displayed, and call the jail when a result is missing, stale, or unclear.
VINE tracks custody events, plain and simple. Iowa counts custody, release, transfer, escape, and death among them. It offers no full sheriff intake file, no final court outcome, no countywide booking list, and no public mugshot gallery. A custody status and a criminal case are related records. One cannot replace the other.
The Sac County VINE page is the county's official doorway to the service.

The county's VINE page sets out the referral and its warnings, not a guarantee of every jail event.
Search Sac County Custody on VINELink
Begin with enough identifying detail to dodge a same-name mix-up. VINELink's live interface decides which search fields exist. Iowa guidance supports searching by name. It also backs an offender and booking identifier when the screen allows it. If age, facility, ID, or event details conflict, never pick a record on a name alone.
- Open VINELink. Go to the official service and choose Iowa.
- Select the available location. Choose the county or facility option displayed in the current interface rather than assuming Sac County is active.
- Enter the person’s details. Use the full name and an offender or booking identifier when one is known.
- Compare possible matches. Check spelling, aliases, facility, status, identifier, and event date before relying on a result.
- Confirm uncertainty. Call the Sac County Jail at 712-662-7127 if the entry is missing, old, or inconsistent.
The official VINELink search interface is captured here without showing a list of people.

The search screen serves one purpose: checking a specific person's custody, not browsing Sac County arrests. A fresh arrest can land in the jail before VINE shows it. The Daily Arrest Report lays out the jail-first verification path when no public same-day feed exists for Sac County.
Sac County VINE Result Fields
Labels shift with the interface and data provider. Read the table as a checklist, not a promise that every Sac County record holds every field. Note the status time and the reporting facility.
| Result element | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Name and identifier | Use both to distinguish people with similar names; check aliases and spelling. |
| Custody status | Read the exact displayed status without converting it into a court outcome. |
| Facility or agency | Shows the reporting custody location when provided, which may no longer be Sac County. |
| Event type | May identify custody, release, transfer, escape, death, or another supported change. |
| Event date | Indicates the reported event time or date, not necessarily the arrest or court filing time. |
| Registration option | Allows alerts for supported changes tied to that selected record. |
A release notice means the reporting agency logged a release. It says nothing about the charge. A transfer means custody moved elsewhere, not that it ended. Keep the distinction straight when reading results.
Register for Iowa Custody Alerts
Register through VINELink or call Iowa VINE at 1-888-7-IAVINE, which is 1-888-742-8463. Iowa allows a phone number or email address for registration. Phone alerts use a PIN you choose. That PIN confirms receipt and stops repeat calls.
- Open the correct person’s record. Verify the identity and reporting facility before selecting notifications.
- Choose the event notice. Select the supported custody changes offered for that record.
- Add a delivery method. Provide a phone number or email address through the current registration flow.
- Create and retain the PIN. For phone notices, choose a PIN that can be entered when the call arrives.
- Complete confirmation. Follow the current prompts and keep the registration details private.
Iowa says calls keep repeating until the PIN is entered. Otherwise they repeat for up to 24 hours. Voicemail can complicate that. An alert gives notice; it is not a safety plan. Call 911 in immediate danger, and never lean on one automated system for safety decisions. The VINELink registration screen shows the sign-in and sign-up path.

This marks the official registration route. The options shown can vary with the person and reporting agency.
Iowa VINE Phone PIN Alerts
The retry rule sets Iowa VINE apart. A phone notice is never just one unanswered ring. Per the Iowa Attorney General, the system keeps calling until the PIN is entered or the retry period hits 24 hours. That design confirms the message reached a real person. It can also mean a flood of calls when voicemail picks up.
Store the PIN where the right person can grab it without exposing it publicly. If contact details change, update the registration in the current service. Silence is not proof that nothing happened. A registration error, a facility participation gap, a delayed report, or an unsupported event can all block the expected notice.
Sac County also flags paid services claiming an affiliation. Iowa VINE is free. The county has no tie to anyone asking for payment, so stick with the county, the Iowa Attorney General, VINELink, or the official phone line.
Note: A phone PIN acknowledges the VINE call but does not verify a court charge or its final result.
Sac County VINELink Limits
A blank result tells you little on its own. The spelling could be off. An alias may hide the name. Reporting lags, a release, a transfer, or a different custody site can all produce the same empty screen. Call the Sac County Jail to confirm who is in custody right now. If the person moved, ask which agency holds them now. Federal and immigration cases run on separate rails. Iowa VINE will not list a Bureau of Prisons inmate, an ICE or CBP detainee, or every person held by the U.S. Marshals. Use the BOP inmate locator for federal records. Use the ICE Online Detainee Locator for qualifying immigration custody. The Marshals Service offers no public prisoner-photo search. State prison is a different world from the county jail. After a commitment to the Iowa Department of Corrections, the IDOC offender search may show where the person sits and their status. IDOC cautions that its data changes fast and updates weekly. It won't confirm a fresh Sac County booking.
| Question | Best official channel |
|---|---|
| Is the person now in Sac County Jail? | Sac County Jail phone, with VINE as a supplemental check |
| Can I receive a release or transfer alert? | Iowa VINE or VINELink for an eligible matched record |
| What happened to the charge? | Iowa Courts Online and the Sac County Clerk of Court |
| Was the person committed to state corrections? | Iowa Department of Corrections offender search |
| Is the person in federal or immigration custody? | BOP or ICE locator, based on the known custody agency |
VINE carries custody information only. For anything beyond the booking, the court record is the place to look.
Confirm Sac County Custody Changes
Read the event type and reporting facility before you act on an alert. A transfer notice may mean another jail or state custody. A release can stem from bond, a court order, time served, or another lawful change. VINE itself rarely states the legal reason. Ask the releasing agency. The Sac County Sheriff's Office sits at 100 NW State Street, Suite 7. The suite is in Sac City, Iowa 50583-0037. The office number is 712-662-7127. County offices keep weekday hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but dispatch and jail run around the clock. Save 911 for emergencies.
- Custody status
- The person’s reported relationship to a facility at a point in time.
- Release
- An end to the reporting facility’s custody, not an acquittal or dismissal.
- Transfer
- A move between facilities or agencies.
- Disposition
- The court’s outcome, which VINE does not decide.
- Detainer
- A request or authority that may affect release because another agency seeks custody.
Want the booking sheet, photo, or release record itself? Send a specific Iowa Chapter 22 request to the custodian. Name the person, the date range, the agency, and the record type. For a later public case, try Iowa Courts Online. The Sac County Clerk can help too, at 100 NW State Street, Suite 12, Sac City, Iowa 50583, phone 712-662-7791. Note: Keep VINE registration active if needed. Bring urgent safety and custody questions straight to the responsible agency.
